Pickup stolen from dealership

A man who asked to test drive a 2006 Dodge Ram Friday at Bennett Autoplex never returned with the pickup truck.
Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield said a man was dropped off at the dealership at 651 S. Ohio and test drove a different vehicle before he drove the truck.
Employees agreed to allow the man to drive the truck to a bank to apply for financing. He left at 4:30 p.m. and was not seen again, Mansfield said.
The truck is valued at $22,000.

I talked to the salesman who this happened to and he got an official looking license that had the name of Jeffery Gordan on it. Now I dont know if the individual was a diehard race fan of the actual Jeff Gordon but if he was you would have thought he could have spelled his first and last name correctly!

If I can’t keep the vehicle overnight and drive it to work, I don’t buy it! I also insist on speaking to the previous owner. Of course, I have been going to the SAME dealer for 10, maybe even 15 years. I can walk in the door and everyone knows me by name.

Bennett Autoplex is still in business and doing quite well with GMC Trucks and other used vehicles. They did take a copy of the suspects DL but it was a fake.

WOW!!! I had to give my DL AND someone rode along and I was buying the car….Cash…. the same day….sometimes i just dont know how people function while making such stupid choices!

Salesman should ride along says….
I was shocked when I took a CRV for a test drive in Manhattan that the salesman didn’t ride along. Of course our car and my dad stayed at the dealership. So we did have a reason to return.

My wife and I test drove a car from Long McArthur in salina, A salesman rode in the back, motorcycle cop in front and we were in the parking lot!!!

You Can’t Fix Stupid says….
This is bizarre. We have never taken any vehicle for a test drive without someone from the dealership going “along for the ride”. I can’t believe that in this day and age any auto dealership would allow someone to come in and just drive off with a vehicle. Going to the bank to apply for financing? At 4:30 in the afternoon??? And what color is the sky in the world these auto salespeople occupy?

So did they not get his info before they let him test drive? I thought most dealerships make a copy of your DL before you take off for a test drive. It is pretty crazy how there has been a lot of this happening in the last week or two.
