Salinan arrested for setting fire to tent

A Salina man was arrested on a charge of arson in connection with the burning of a homeless man’s tent.
Salina police received a call about 2 p.m. Friday from someone who reported an intoxicated man carrying a torch in Lum Felton Park, Broadway and Ash streets, said Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
When police arrived, they found that someone had set fire to a tent belonging to Gary Wells, 52, Mansfield said. The fire was extinguished, and police arrested James W. Woods, 48, 111 W. Ash.
Damage was estimated at $50 to the tent and $100 to the surrounding grounds. Wells was not injured, Mansfield said.
