St. John’s Youth RAPP gets grant
St. John’s Youth RAPP received a $600 grant from the Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition to implement tobacco use prevention programs in Salina.
St. John’s Youth RAPP is part of TASK, a statewide youth movement against tobacco use.
The 2009 Kansas Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 16.9 percent of Kansas high school students smoke. The goal of the grant is to encourage creativity in youth-led projects that focus on activities that protect teens and their peers from becoming addicted to cigarettes and tobacco products.
Workshops and events will be geared toward increasing awareness of negative consequences of tobacco use to deter potential first-time tobacco users and decrease the number of students who use tobacco products.
