1 killed, 2 injured in 2 vehicle collision
SELDEN — One person was killed and two were injured in a crash about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and Kansas Highway 383, three miles northeast of Selden.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Carl Jonas, 86, and May Jonas, 72, of Pahrump, Nev., were taken to Sheridan County Health Complex, in Hoxie. Carl Jonas later died. Daniel Smith, 33, of Wiley, Colo., was taken to Citizens Medical Center, in Colby.
The report said the Jonases were traveling south on U.S. 83 in a motor home, pulling a car, when they failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. 83 and K-383. The motor home collided with Smith’s semitrailer, which was going southwest on K-383.
The collision forced both vehicles off the road. The Jonases and Smith were all wearing seat belts, according to the patrol.
A spokesman for Sheridan County Health Complex said May Jonas was in good condition Thursday. A spokeswoman for Citizens Medical Center said Smith was treated and released Wednesday.
