The Salina Police Department has sent out a warning about a scam in which people are tricked into sending a scammer money and personal information that’s useful in identity theft.
According to a news release from the Salina Police Department, the scammer, who’s in a location other than Salina, gets information on real estate for sale in Salina. The scammer then relists the property on Craig’s List (or others), but the property is listed for rent, not for sale.
The scammer goes into great detail to explain why he is out of the country.
For more on how this scam works and how to protect yourself, read reporter Chris Hunters’ story in Thursday’s Salina Journal.
