7/29/2010
Salina Journal
HAYS — The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a man who raped a woman Wednesday night in the northern part of the county.
According to the sheriff’s office, the woman was driving on U.S. Highway 183 just south of the Saline River bridge about 10:30 p.m. when she saw a child about 3 years old standing next to a pickup truck, apparently alone.
When she stopped to talk to the child, a man appeared, approached her, then restrained and raped her.
The man is described as a 35- to 40-year-old Native American, about 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighing about 250 pounds, with a scorpion tattoo on the left side of his neck.
He and the boy left in the pickup, which is described as a late 1980s model hunter green Ford Explorer, which was dirty.
The truck was last seen turning west off of U.S. 183 onto a county road.
Anyone with information, or who may have seen a vehicle or person matching the description, is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (785) 625-1040.
