LINCOLN — A wheat-stubble fire that burned out of control Friday in Lincoln County torched several trees and fence posts but caused no serious damage, said Lincoln County Sheriff Russ Black.
Black said firefighters were called out at 12:22 p.m. for a fire along 260th Road in east-central Lincoln County. A farmer had informed fire officials of his intention to burn wheat stubble, but the fire, fanned by the wind, jumped to a pasture.
“It just got into some heavy grass, and away she went,” Black said. “I was on the fire truck almost three hours. We got’er knocked down.”
Firefighters from several Lincoln County districts battled the blaze that was contained to one section of land.
