Salinans Mark Riordan and Alex Williams will compete on opposite teams when they participate in the 2010 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game today in Topeka.

Riordan, a recent graduate of Sacred Heart High School, will play for the North squad while Williams, a Salina Central graduate, will be a member of the South squad for the 8 p.m. contest at Washburn’s Lee Arena.

The game features 20 of the top players from the across the state but only includes players who were seniors during the 2009-10 season.

Riordan, a 6-foot-2 guard, was a first-team Class 2A all-state selection by the KBCA after averaging 11.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 4.0 assists a game his senior season at Sacred Heart.

Williams, a 6-foot-8 forward, was a KBCA Class 5A all-state second-team pick after leading the Central in both scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.7) this past season.

While Riordan is one of 11 players on the North roster, Williams may see more playing time after the South roster was trimmed to nine this week when two players were forced to pull out.

Will Spradling, a 6-3 guard from Shawnee Mission South who has signed with Kansas State, was unable to participate because of a family emergency. Blake Jablonski, a 6-3 guard from Wichita Collegiate, has already reported to the University of Kansas for football practice.

The KBCA’s Girls All-Star Game will take place prior to the boys contest today and is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The North girls roster includes five players from Salina Journal area schools, including Marion teammates Julia Zeiner and Lindsay Hett.

Also competing for the North will be Concordia’s Karly Buer, Lucas-Luray’s Jenna Ulrich and Hillsboro’s Dakota Kaufman.
