HERINGTON — No new information was released by the Herington Police Department Tuesday regarding the Sunday night shooting of a 15-year-old boy by another 15-year-old.
The victim, shot in the abdomen, was taken by ambulance to Herington Municipal Hospital and then flown by medical evacuation helicopter to an unnamed Topeka hospital. He was in the intensive care unit, according to a Monday news release.
No details were released as to what led to the shooting, and the victim and the shooter were not identified.
Herington Police Chief John Pritchard could not be reached Monday or Tuesday.
Dickinson County Attorney Keith Hoffman said he spoke with Pritchard late Monday night.
“They’re looking at it. They need to interview more people,” Hoffman said. “It looks to me like it’s an accidental shooting. I’m just going off of what (Pritchard) told me.”
Hoffman said he spoke Tuesday morning with one of the investigating officers who said of the victim: “They got him stabilized enough that they were going to operate on him (Tuesday) morning.”
