Inmate at large turns himself in

8/5/2010

Salina Journal

A 30-year-old Salina man who failed to report back to jail after a medical furlough last week turned himself in Tuesday afternoon.

Saline County Undersheriff Dave Dunstan said escape charges are being requested against George Meinhardt, who was at large for about a week before returning to the jail at 2:30 p.m.

Meinhardt had been furloughed by Saline County District Court so that he could seek medical treatment at a Veteran’s Administration hospital in Wichita. He was supposed to return to Saline County Jail on July 28.

Meinhardt was convicted on drug charges last year. He had been booked into the jail June 29 for a probation violation.
