Police chief confirms death was homicide

1/14/2010

Salina Journal, The (KS)-August 22, 2003

BELOIT — Carol Fleming, 51, whose body was found early Saturday in her Beloit home, died of a single gunshot wound to the head, Beloit Police Chief Frank Gent said Thursday.

“Now, we can officially call it a homicide,” Gent said, because of the autopsy conclusions.

Gent said no arrests have been made.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has completed charting and sketching the crime scene and is preparing a report, Gent said, and “several pieces of evidence will be sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation laboratory for testing and examination.”

Gent would not characterize the evidence to be sent for examination, nor would he say whether a suspected murder weapon had been found.

The Beloit Police Department, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate.
