What in the world does the motorcross have to do with the fountain getting destroyed people?!!!

No Paralyzed Children– People like you are the cause of obesity among teenagers these days. Make your kids go outside once in a while. A constant diet of video games is not healthy!

Lets ban it all! says….
No Paralyzed Children– I take it you are an over protective parent? Sure motocross is not the safest sport, but I believe someone has already pointed out that more injuries occur on the football field than on the motocross track. Oh, and bu the way, Wii and Motocross arcade games cause carpel tunnel syndrome.

Tis a simple water fountain but symbolmatic of our society today. Little respect for property not theirs. If caught they will probably get a slap on the wrist as so many vandals. Not enough teeth in our criminal laws to deter activity from mischief to crimes. Sad commentary about a society that strives to be civil yet demonstrates the opposite.

It doesn’t take much does it??

No Paralyzed Children says….
The first $10 million dollar lawsuit for a child who gets paralyzed from the neck down will shut down the motocross. It will also double everybody’s County property taxes again! There are SAFER SPORTS for kids – like Wii and Motocross Arcade games.

Attention Built & Destroyed says….

Dont do anything thing because it Might be dangerous hey dont even Garden- Those gardening tool are awful Dangerous

Built & Destroyed says….
If you build a water fountain, Salinans will destroy it. The same with a motocross track where kids will get paralyzed and killed. Does the county want to pay for those lawsuits?

@ Looking out for the Kids: First, I want to say that I did not call kids brats, that was referring to another post. Second, I would never treat kids in that way. I do try to teach the kids in my class respect and responsibility. Even the simple things like please and thank you. I take pride in my job and the way I educate kids, not only reading, math, etc., but in life skills as well.
I would be appalled, too, if I found out my children had teachers like that, and I feel bad for the McPherson school district if they do.

gatorade did it! plain as day. no need for accomadations. waters overrated anyway. oh and in place of this water fountain they shall put a steel bidet. multifunctional if you follow!

Question says….
Yeah, we were all kids at one time, but did we “all” destroy public property? No. Maybe you did, but the rest of us were busy being kids and having fun without destroying other people’s property.
3/23/2010
Looking out for the kids says….
Oh and by the way, I still don’t see anywhere where it is said a “kid” did this. Why is everyone attacking the kids anyway? We all were kids once, or did you all forget?!!
3/23/2010
Looking out for the kids says….
My response to “teacher” if you really are a teacher maybe teachers need to have a little respect for the students and actually do some teaching. My kids come home with some pretty weird stories of how the teachers at the end of class period take the daily assignment and throw it on the floor and say “here is your assignment” What kind of crap is this? I am not from Salina I am from McPherson and was appauld when three of my four children told me this. My kids said they are treated like dogs. I teach my kids respect everyday and this is not what I call respect. If you don’t want to teach kids don’t. But calling all kids “brats” is wrong to!!!!

Still Laughing says….
Maybe it was someone who just hated fountains. Not to mention that is was a Monday night, who parties on a Monday. This person obviously had a grievance with this fountain. Next point. Why are there fountains there anyways? Why are there statues in front of the municipal court? Who knows.

teacher says….
Keep “the little brats” in school all year round?? Sorry, but that is not the solution. They have enough trouble going to school for 9 months. You go and tell them that they have to go to school all year and see what they do! I do think that a motocross track would give lots of kids something to do, something new. But I think that parents these days need to teach their children respect and responsibility. Again, as a teacher, I see a big gap there.

I can think of a lot better ways to spend a $1,000 on salina rather than a water fountian

Just Sayin’ says….
1) It’s not a drinking fountain, more like a wishing fountain than anything, or a bathtub for the homeless. 2)I saw it after it was broken. Someone(s) pushed it over. Don’t know who didn’t see who, just saw it before it was cleaned up. 3) No the police could not take finger prints, before anyone gets all CSI. No fingerprints would have been left on the material used.

You could be right. Maybe he went outside to smoke a cigarette and one thing led to another. If it was a drunk outside smoking a cigarette, I wonder if it would have happened at all if he had been allowed to be inside smoking a cigarette.
3/19/2010
says….
maybe it was a young drunk motocross fans from one of the bars who was angry about the germs in the water fountain.

since when did a bird fountain become a drinking fountain

a citizen says….
who says that a drunk from one of the many bars we have here in town didnt destroy the fountain what a shame

Children don’t need “more things to do” – they need to be taught respect of property and discipline.
Salina can’t have more police on patrol – the budget is too short. Which means more crime.
I’m sure adults are capable of being as disrespectful and destructive as children can be.
Even if the fountain was gross and full of germs, this doesn’t justify destroying it. How sad, really.

3/18/2010
says….
Darn! Now where will I go pee when I leave the bar???

Looking out for the kids says….
Social Security taxes come out of my check every payday for a system to support old people who like to do nothing but criticize they young people even though they used to be young once too. I guess they forgot! When I retire I will probably be homeless because more then likely there won’t be any of my Social Security to give back to me. But I do have kids and do wish the older generation could give back to the communities around to help entertain our young people. Instead they worry about themselves and put down younger generation.

HeHeHe! I knew if I commented by bringing up another hot button topic, I’d get all sorts of idiotic replies. You people are just too predictable. Kind of like mentioning Palin to a liberal.
Oh, and if it matters, none of my kids would benefit from the MX track, but I might, if I ever get tired of Milford. I don’t believe in rug rats, clingons, or gutter snipes. But do continue to carry on, this is oh so entertaining.

3/18/2010
Looking out for the kids says….
Just like everytown, we worry more about doing for the older generation and not the younger ones. Maybe all communities need to think about what would be good for the younger ones. By the way how do you know this was done by kids, have they arrested anyone yet?
3/18/2010
says….
citizen, do you honestly believe it was non other than a child that did this just because they didn’t state it was a child..and just because it is full of germs its ok to destroy it. maybe you would not drink out of it but this may be the only drink homeless gets for the day
3/18/2010
says….
ya, Salina don’t need to build anything that will bring revenue to the community and give kids something to do. Instead lets just have NOTHING and let the kids destroy because there is nothing better to do it and cost salina more money.
3/18/2010
citizen says….
hmmm, don’t see anywhere in the 5 line article that says kids did this. Adults do stupid things too. And besides, I think it is revolting to have a public drinking fountain outside where it doesn’t get sanatized at least once a day. Does anyone have any idea what diseases are in this world, people can have things and you not even know it.
3/18/2010
Not Surprised! says….
I’m wondering if spring break has anything to do with this activity? Seems kids have nothing good to do with themselves anymore unless parents tell them what they will be doing and verify they are actually doing what they’re supposed to be doing! Didn’t I read there were bricks being thrown into windsheilds this week too? Maybe that was elsewhere but I really think parents are responsible for knowing what their children are doing at all times! I’m a parent of a 14 year old and know how tough that can be but he knows I’m watching! Haven’t CAUGHT him doing anything he shouldn’t yet. I know the day will come but for now, I’m trusting he will be ok as long as I’m keeping an eye on him.

and just how many kids will the motocross track benefit? YOURS? What about the kids that dont have a motocross bike or desire to engage in that sport?

Does anyone actually drink from that? Yea gross, I doubt that.
3/17/2010

OMG! One thing has nothing to do with the other! It doesn’t matter what we provide for these losers, they will still destroy what isn’t theirs. Keep the little brats in school year round and see how all this stops.

NO to Threats says….
“Motocross fans are angry!” At least that’s what one of the posters seems to be saying when he implied that if there was a motocross track, no water fountains would be destroyed. Is that called extortion or blackmail? Vote NO motocross track. A skateboard park, YES.
3/17/2010
U_R_Idjut says….
I’m pretty sure the kids that broke the fountain would not go to the motocross track. Idjut.

This town is getting to the point it needs around 40 police on the streets at night lucky if we have 5 now.
3/17/2010

I was bored alot when I was a kid, but I didn’t go around destroying other peoples property or stealing..you don’t have to be a delinquent just because you are bored. There are choices in life, you either make good choices or bad..has nothing to do with how much entertainment we provide for kids, it’s a matter of character…and knowing right from wrong
3/17/2010

Too bad a few bad apples have to spoil the whole barrel and ruin it for everyone!
3/17/2010

Ya, let’s not put a motocross track in, kids have so many other things to keep them occupied!
