Officers seize huge rock of crack cocaine

Officers arrested a Salina man and seized a rock of crack cocaine the size of a fist Thursday in a west Salina neighborhood.
After three-week investigation stemming from neighborhood complaints, the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force served search warrants at 5 p.m. Thursday at 631 and 635 Steahlin, said Lt. Jim Norton, the task force commander. Arrested was Kenneth W. Harrison, 45, of 631 Steahlin, on suspicion of distributing crack cocaine.
Harrison arrived home at 5:02 p.m. and was searched. Officers found a large rock of cocaine on him, weighing 60 grams with a street value of $7,000, Norton said.
“It was the biggest one I’d ever seized,” Norton said.
Three small baggies with a total of 1.9 grams of crack — a $300 street value — were also located in the console of Harrison’s car. A search of the house netted a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun.
More paraphernalia and a loaded handgun were found at 635 Steahlin, Norton said. There was no one home when that house was searched. The investigation of that location continues.
“I believe further arrests will come from both search warrants,” Norton said. “Hopefully this will make a difference in the neighborhood.”
