County to consider firefighter cameras

Saline County Commissioners have on their agenda for their weekly Tuesday meeting consideration of bids for buying two thermal imaging cameras for Rural Fire District No. 5.

The commissioners also have scheduled a monthly update from Phil Penn, farm/park/weed director. The meeting starts at 11 a.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash.

The cameras, which let firefighters see through smoke to find persons, and locate hotspots of fires, are being purchased through a cost-sharing program with a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Commissioners also have scheduled Tuesday a 2 p.m. discussion of remodeling county offices within the City-County Building.

Commissioners meet informally from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. until the close of business Tuesday. View the entire commission agenda at www.saline.org.

Salina mom says….

I think these would be a great thing to have. It would make saving life’s easier and faster for safety reasons. I think they should have done this a long time ago.
