Girls tennis
TECUMSEH -- Salina Central athletes won three of the four brackets and the Mustangs captured the team title at the Shawnee Heights Doubles Tournament .
Central, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 5A, finished with 15 points in edging Lawrence Free State, which had 13.
Ashley DeTurk and Kelsey Houserman went 4-0 in the No. 1 division as did Jordan Brown and Sammy Jordan in No. 3 and Rachel Norris and Kate Martens in No. 4.
Central's No. 2 team of Gabby Briggs and Mackenzie Morris finished second with a 3-1 record.
The Mustangs play host to quad on Tuesday, starting at 3 p.m.
Volleyball
HUTCHINSON -- Salina South won four of its six matches while Salina Central lost all six in the season-opening Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Tournament.
South defeated Andover 25-12, 25-15; Salina Central 25-12, 25-22; Derby 15-25, 25-23, 26-24; and McPherson 16-25, 25-20, 25-16. The Cougars lost to Maize 19-26, 25-15, 25-20 and Valley Center 25-20, 25-18.
Sally Thompson led South with 55 kills, nine stuff blocks, 39 digs, 33 service points and five aces. Logan Antenen had 56 kills, six stuff blocks and 39 digs; Kelsie Baird 53 assists; Jessica Stonebraker 53 assists; Taylor Karcher 55 digs; and Emily Webb 20 service points and eight aces.
In addition to its loss to South, Central fell to Andover Central 25-13, 25-19; McPherson 25-11, 25-21; Newton 25-7, 23-25, 25-17; Hutchinson 25-23, 25-21 and Goddard 25-17, 25-9.
Emily Wood had 22 service points and 19 assists; Shaelyn Martin 30 kills, 22 digs and four stuff blocks; Carson Jett 20 kills and 14 service points; Kaylee Erickson 24 assists; Jorrie Dykes 17 digs; Brooke Peters 13 points; and Nicole Morgan four stuffs.
