Francis Flax is one victory away from becoming the winningest men's junior college basketball coach in Kansas, and his Brown Mackie Lions can put him over the top tonight.
Brown Mackie entertains the Central Christian junior varsity at 7:30 p.m. at Banes Gymnasium.
Flax has 502 career junior college victories and is tied with former Cloud County coach Dennis Erkenbrack.
Erkenbrack retired following the 1998 season with a career record of 502-225 in 23 years. Flax is in his 18th season at Brown Mackie and 26th season overall as a junior college coach, having previously worked at Highland.
Brown Mackie is 4-6 on the season, but has won its last three, including a 90-67 rout of Southeast Nebraska on Tuesday at Banes Gym that moved Flax into a tie with Erkenbrack.
Erkenbrack's son, Brett, is the winningest women's junior college coach in Kansas with 475 career wins during his career at Cloud County.
