BEATRICE, Neb. -- Brown Mackie's two basketball teams play their final regular-season road games of the season today against Southeast (Neb.) Community College. The women's game starts at 5 p.m. and the men at 7.
The Brown Mackie men (15-10) picked up a forfeit victory this week after Central (Neb.) said it would forfeit 20 victories this season because of an ineligible player. The player, guard Vashaun Pinson, hit the game-winning shot for Central in a 70-69 victory over the Lions on Jan. 21 at Kansas State-Salina.
Central was ranked 10th in last week's NJCAA Division II poll with a 21-4 record before the forfeits.
Cloud County gained two victories after losing twice to Central this season.
Brown Mackie clobbered Southeast 84-55 Feb. 10 in Salina as Royal Crouch scored 24 points, Adam Mughmaw 16 and Brandon Graham 14. Southeast is 16-9 on the season.
"We played a really solid game," BMC coach Francis Flax said of the first meeting. "We kept them out of the lane. If you keep them out of the paint you have a good chance. They don't shoot that well from the perimeter. If they get in the lane they can hurt you."
Brown Mackie has won four in a row and eight of nine with the forfeit.
"We don't want to take a step backwards," Flax said. "We want to keep in stride with what we're doing."
The Brown Mackie women (17-10) have won two in a row and eight of nine.
