Dorothy M. Peck

Dorothy M. Peck, 88, Salina, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Lucas, to Owen F. and Lydia (Langley) Hoopes.

She was a graduate of Lucas High School and Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina. She was a member of Church of the Cross United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, president of the United Methodist Women and church secretary. She also sang in the Chancel Choir for many years.

Banking became her favored occupation, and she began this profession at Farmers State Bank in Lucas. Her next assignment was Russell State Bank, Russell, and finally First National Bank and Trust, Salina.

Dorothy learned to play piano at a early age and often played for church services and accompanied many school musical programs.

She was preceded in death by her only child, Judy Lynn Boersma, in 2006; parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Eldon Dale Peck, of the home; sister, Pauline Lightcap of Offerle; grandsons, Kevin Boersma and friend Tammy Otto of Manning, Iowa, and Nathan Boersma and wife LeeAnn of New York; granddaughter, Molly Wilson and husband Duane of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and great-grandchildren, Heather, Amy and Sarah Wilson of Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, KS 67401, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of the Cross United Methodist Church, 1600 Rush St., Salina, KS 67401, with the Rev. Greg Lindenberger officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rossette Cemetery, Sylvan Grove.

Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary.
