Salinan arrested after bank robbery

9/6/2008

A Salina man was arrested Saturday night in Dickinson County for the robbery of Bennington State Bank on South Ninth. Dennis Ray Winters, 39, 818 Gypsum, was being held in the Dickinson County Jail after a traffic stop in the eastern part of the county shortly after 8 p.m., said Salina Police Lt. Chris Trocheck. Salina police were en route to Dickinson County to talk to Winters at 8:30 p.m. Trocheck said Winters may be transported to Saline County. A Dickinson County Sheriff’s dispatcher said she could not release any information when contacted Saturday evening. Geary County deputies observed Winters’ car, which met the description of the vehicle being sought in connection with the robbery, and followed it into Dickinson County before making the stop, Trocheck said. Winters is accused of walking into the bank at 3:15 p.m. Friday and handing a teller a note demanding money and leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber left the bank on foot and may have gotten into a light brown passenger car. A police spokesman said he couldn’t say whether the robber showed a weapon. A Salina Journal photographer found a bundle of $20 bills in the gutter on 10th Street just a few yards north of Walnut while photographing the crime scene. The bundle’s red dye pack had exploded, marking the bills with the dye and rendering them useless to spend. Photos of the suspect from bank surveillance cameras were made public early Friday evening. It was the fourth robbery at the bank since 2005.

Tired of my kid being pulled over for stupid shit says....
Isn't this the same bank that got robbed by someone on a bicycle? Our Police dept is too busy pulling over kids that don't use a blinker (oh my God), turn to quick at an intersection (oh my goodness) or not soon enough. Come Salina PD, get your act together and leave the kids alone and go after the real criminals!!

Salina police are only good for DUIs and railroading charges on innocent people.

Unbelievable says....
This is rather crazy I agree. I have seen cops that just sit around certain areas waiting to see if they can catch a speeder to make their ticket numbers, but when it comes to doing real police work where are they. I had someone trying to break into my house and it took over 45 mins for someone to respond, in that time who knows what could have happened if the person had not got scared off by the neighborhood dogs barking and people turning on their lights to see what was going on.

You are a idiot! The Salina Police couldn't arrest him if he was in Dickinson County. And by the way, the police are paid to right tickets for loud music and not using a turn signal, so I guess they are doing their job!

this is some crazy crap. shows just how good our police dept. is Another county had to yet again do the work that the salina police dept is paid to do. This just goes to show that while they are on the streets of salina pulling people over and giving minor tickets for loud music or no turn signal that this is all they know how to do. We still havea murderer walking amongst us and i can guarantee another police dept will have to step in to catch him too..
