Public tips lead to robbery arrests

9/8/2008

Tips from people who believed they recognized the man in a bank security camera photograph released to news media led Salina police to search the home of Dennis R. and Antonette G. Winters for evidence in the robbery.
The couple, who live at 818 Gypsum, are being held in the Saline County Jail, accused of robbing Bennington State Bank, 200 S. Ninth, on Friday. Police listed the couple’s vehicle description and tag number with the National Crime Information Center. Saturday evening the car was stopped in Dickinson County and the two were arrested without incident, Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield said.
Some of the money stolen has been recovered, Mansfield said. Police are not releasing the total amount taken by the robber, who handed a teller a note demanding money at 3:15 p.m. Friday.
“We were really pleased with the help from the public, the media and the law enforcement officers involved in this case,” Mansfield said. “It went down very well.”
