Print this story MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State University´s Department of Animal Sciences and Industry has slated a County Fair Livestock Judges Clinic for June 13 in Manhattan. The clinic, to be held at Weber Hall, will help livestock judges become more familiar with Kansas county fair livestock shows, the quality of work expectations as a judge, and current industry show animal types, said K-State Research and Extension livestock specialist Joel DeRouchey. "This clinic will include several hands-on sessions involving beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats to gain familiarity and confidence when evaluating different species of livestock at county fairs in Kansas," DeRouchey said. The topics to be covered will include: Know county rules and classes; Ribbon placing; Show staff conduct to the judge; and Judges conduct at the show. Separate sessions will also cover hands-on evaluation, showmanship and discussion of each species - swine; sheep; meat goats; and beef cattle. The day begins at 9 a.m. with sign-in, and the program starting at 9:30 a.m. A complete agenda and registration form is available at county Extension offices. The registration fee, due by June 9, is $15 per participant.
