Kansas Wheelchairs Being Sent to Honduras in March

MCPHERSON, KS - On Thursday, March 7, Kirby and Chris Goering, owners of PET-Kansas in Moundridge, loaded up 140 Personal Energy Transportation wheelchairs for an eight-day mission of mercy to the La Vega Church of Christ in Honduras this month. Ashley Williams, a Moundridge neighbor, helped to organize the project.
Others accompanying the Goerings and Williams are Rod Huebert, Matt Goering, and Cherlyn Goering. The group will fly to Mississippi to meet the PETs, which were trucked there this past weekend. They will then sail with their cargo from Mississippi to Honduras where the PETs will be distributed to severely disabled victims of polio and birth defects in communities in the Tegucigalpa area.
PETs, which are 95% indestructible, are given free of charge to persons in more than 60 developing countries around the world. The PET-Kansas shipment will include 60 sewing machines which will be taken to a sewing program in El Salvador, plus the 140 PETs, walkers, canes, and 2,000 bottles of vitamins for expectant mothers in Honduras.
The Goerings credit their many volunteers in Moundridge and McPherson County for donating labor to build the PETs, as well as funds, supplies, paint, clothing and soft toys which are used for packing the PETs. Companion Industries in Moundridge built and donated palates for the PET shipment, as well.
The Goerings and Williams have indicated that this shipment will run approximately $10,000 to send. Donations to help with shipping may be made to the PET Kansas Fund at PET-Kansas, 320 Ruth St., Moundridge 67107. Also, the Eden Mennonite Church has a fund for PET-Kansas.
