SHARON MONTAGUE
A Salina man is accused of stealing more than $27,000 from his mother over a period of 17 months.
Clifford E. Titus, 47, 1411 Pawnee, was arrested Wednesday night on multiple counts of forgery and theft. Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield said Titus is accused of stealing at least 65 personal checks from his mother, Ethel Titus, then forging those checks at various businesses.
The forgeries occurred between October 2006 and the end of February, Mansfield said.
Titus was arrested after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over for an unsafe turn shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Elm Street. Mansfield said officers found a glass pipe with drug residue in the vehicle, and an open container of alcohol.
