DECATUR COUNTY -- A 34-year-old Oberlin man was killed and two others had to be airlifted to Denver on Saturday evening when a vehicle rolled and ejected four of the five people inside, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.
Passenger Dwayne R. Dickinson was killed, and passengers Chad Salem, 33, Oberlin, and David Vick, 36, Redondo Beach, Calif., were airlifted to a hospital in Denver, the KHP report said.
Also injured were the driver, Ashley Coronado, 16, Oberlin, and passenger Troy Ruth, 29, Almena. They were taken to Decatur County Hospital, Oberlin, but the hospital refused to release information regarding their conditions Sunday evening.
At about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Coronado was driving a 1998 Chevy sport-utility vehicle west on Decatur County Road 6S six miles south and 2.7 miles east of Oberlin and lost control on the gravel surface. The vehicle went into the north ditch and overturned, ejecting everyone except Ruth.
Nobody in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP report.
