Brownfields program is set for April 17

A Kansas Department of Health and Environment Kansas Brownfields Program workshop will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 17 at the Bicentennial Center, KDHE announced through a press release.

Brownfields are properties whose expansion, redevelopment or reuse might be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or other contaminant, KDHE said. By investigating and cleaning up a brownfields site, communities can use local land again for productive purposes.

The workshops will cover funding opportunities for brownfields projects.

Program to focus on grieving for children

Each year the Hospice Foundation of America and Hospice of Salina present a distance learning program via satellite to more than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities.

This year's bereavement teleconference focuses on "Children and Adolescents." The program will focus on the experience of grieving for children and adolescents who have died, and the ways that parents, hospice professionals, counselors, clergy and others can support the deceased's loved ones as they cope.

The program is from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 16 at Community Access Television of Salina, 410 W. Ash. Parking is available in the lot northwest of the Access TV studio in Memorial Hall, on the street, or across Ninth Street in the City-County Building parking lot. To register, call 825-1717. Registration is requested before April 11.
