If you were planning to head west on Interstate Highway 70 Thursday afternoon and were wondering if that snow expected in western Kansas was really developing, there have always been a number of ways you could check, but now there’s a new tool.

This week the Kansas Department of Transportation unveiled a new set of traffic cameras that post images to a Web site every 15 minutes. And yes, the Goodland camera showed snow accumulating in the ditches there by late Thursday afternoon.

Camera locations are Salina, Topeka, Junction City, east of Hays, east of Goodland, Chanute, Wichita and Garden City.

The road views may be seen on KDOT’s road information Web site, http://511.ksdot.org.
