Drug raid yields unexpected results
8/25/2008
Four arrests were made Friday for possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia by the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force, two of which were unexpected.
Lt. Jim Norton, commander of the task force, said officers were serving warrants at trailer homes on Lot 43 and Lot 18 at 917 N. 13th between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Friday.
An agent was stationed behind the trailer at Lot 18 when officers knocked and announced their presence, he said. Apparently, the residents of Lot 17 thought their trailer was being raided, as the agent saw two people throwing packets of drugs and paraphernalia out the back window or their trailer, Norton said. The owner gave task force members permission to search, and there they arrested John M. Coburn, 18, and Darin D. Gordon, 18, for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Occupants of the trailer at Lot 18 were not home, but drug items were found, Norton said. Charges are pending.
At Lot 43, Jimmy Wells, 20, and Dena M. McDaniel, 28, were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. Wells faces an additional charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Blaming drug usage on class difference is profoundly absurd. Therefore, don't try to sound as if you have a brain or a clue. You are implying society is a strain on drug users rather than the opposite. It is a fact crime rates are higher in areas where drug usage is prevalent. There is a class difference universally since time began. What has that to do with the choice to use drugs? Poor and oppressed? Explain Hollywood and the bluebloods if that's the case. The moral ground is the option to abide by the law and accepting personal responsibility if we choose otherwise. That option is for all people regardless of class. Life's not fair. Get used to it. The only fair in life has cotton candy and ferris wheels. Maybe Barack The Wealth Spreader will stop drug raids on the North end when he cuts the big checks. Maybe everyone who uses drugs will then decide to stop, and you will hopefully refrain from the idiocy of telling other people (society) it's their/our fault North end kids were busted. "Society" setting kids up for failure? "Horrible" USD 305 who driving kids to drugs? Store owners who choose not to put a store on the North end? The bogeyman Salina PD who is out to get everybody except those on Fairview or Meadowlark? Nonsense. You hardly refuse to put all the blame on society as you state. That is precisely what you are doing. No one is out to get anyone by setting them on a bad road. We choose our own paths. We all have the option to make good choices and rise above regardless of circumstances. That is the moral high ground. Take it, or light candles and sing Kum-Bah-Ya and Lennon's 'Imagine' while you cry, whine and point fingers 'til the cows come home or your chickens come home to roost.

Dont try to sound as if you have some kind of moral ground to stand on, if those kids had parents on fairview or meadowlark lane, this wouldnt even be in the newspaper. If salina is so stright forward, how come there isnt one grocery store in the north end? There is a problem in the world today and it is small people who will not see the inequalities that our society, the one you and I live in, has sewed upon certain classes. To deny there is a class difference in salina is atrocious. Have you seen North tenth street? Or the whole north side, and most of the middle for that matter? Generations of people have grown up there with almost nothing. The Education system in salina is horrible to say the least, and there are few jobs that give a real liveable wage to be had. But its a great place. I refuse to put the blame all on the shoulders of society, people should and are accountable for their actions. That is the American way, but if society is setting these kids up for failure, sets them on a bad road, shouldnt society also take a portion of the blame?

Tom, those who abstain from engaging in illegal activities do not incur resulting legal problems. Your original comment was foolish as was the second. Signing your name to an embecilic post serves only to magnify the ignorance of your own ignorance which merits no bravery of any sort nor addresses my reply. Why or how you sign your name is irrelevant. The topic was personal accountability, choice and consequence. "Cowardly" would be the correct word for The Victim Game of finger-pointing and whining played with nauseating frequency in our society today. Furthermore, it is apparently a concept you are unable to grasp regardless of who you are or how you sign a post.

I sign my name because i am not scared of personal accountability. I hope you dont raise your children to be cowards

Yeah_I_Said_It says....
Tom Pilcher, I disagree. People ruin their own lives by their own choices. Certain drugs are currently illegal whether we like it or not. I certainly hope you do not raise your own children to buck authority then blame the system when they are caught. Isn't it ironic so many who have served time for breaking the law still point the finger at the "life ruining" establishment? People who obey the law generally have no problem with their lives being "ruined" by it.

Tom Pilcher, people make choices that ruin their own lives. I hope you don't raise your own kids without personal accountability, teaching them to blame everything on the *corrupt* establisment. Certain drugs are illegal whether we agree with that or not. Those who obey the law will most likely have no worries about the PD "ruining their lives."

I just think it's funny that THAT was all they got. I know that whole trialer park and that wells guys....let me tell you somethin' to bad the Salina cops weren't about an hour and a half faster...then at least our tax money would've gone to better use!

Dopers on average have a higher IQ than the retard law enforcement officers whom have been indoctrinated with the lies which the government tells to support the war on drugs.

I think its ridiculus that cops are wasting their time on petty things like this. There is a lot more going on in Salina then a little marijuana and meth.

What do you call a doper who uses meth and pot? A pothead who satisfies his munchees twice as fast!

Here in Yuma County Arizona, We lock up all the dopers and get the tax payers to spend some cash to help these dopers. Salina is still the home of dopers from when I left there in 1976. Never want to live there, only to be buried. JH

You know...I think it's great that the drug problem is being taken seriously. But, what will happen to these kids? Will they just be punished and released back to the streets...or will someone offer them some help? I actually know one of those kids, and I know he's struggled all of his life because he hasn't had any good role models to show him the right way. I would guess that is the case with at least most kids who turn to drugs. Maybe we should think about how to help them, rather than make fun of and condemn them!

Frustrated says....
Good just Lt. Norton & company! In San Diego county you cannot get a cop to show any interest at all in arresting drug users or sellers. You have to sue them in civil court for violating your peace of mind!

This story was LOL funny. Maybe all the cops have to do is knock on one trailer door and drugs will go flying out of all the trailers in the trailer park. Saves time and money!
