The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is preparing to accept bids to repair damage Salina's levees sustained in the May floods.
Public Works Director Mike Fraser said the areas that will be repaired are along the Smoky Hill River, south of Salina near Mentor, and on the city's west side where Mulberry Creek merges with Dry Creek.
A presolicitation notice sent by the Corps of Engineers indicates the project is expected to cost between $1 and $5 million.
"Work shall consist of excavation of loosened soil, replacement and backfill and placement of stone protection to repair damaged slopes, and construction of a stone grade control structure to address channel degredation," the notice says.
Bids will be accepted at the Corps of Engineers office in Kansas City from Dec. 28 to Jan. 29.
Fraser said prospective vendors will be given a tour of the damaged areas on Jan. 16.
