Laurie Robinson, Newton, is the Mothers' Hour speaker from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. Oct. 2 at First Covenant Church, 2625 E. Magnolia.

The goal of the freelance writer and author is to encourage women and their children to foster intimacy with Jesus in the midst of daily pressures and family life.

Robinson's talk will be a shared creative exploration of these three points:

1. Busy hands: Committing one's self to daily quiet times in unlikely spaces and places.

2. Little hands: Connecting children to Jesus during meals, bedtime rituals and other teachable moments.

3. Open hands: Confessing one's need to Jesus constantly throughout the day with various kinds of prayers.

Mothers' Hour is an interdenominational ministry aimed at encouraging women and parents of preschool and school-age children. There are supervised nurseries for infants and teaching activities for toddlers through 6-year-olds.

There is no charge to attend Mothers' Hour, and childcare is free.
