Three vehicles damaged in early Thursday fire

The Salina fire and police departments are investigating the cause of an early Thursday blaze that damaged three vehicles parked in a parking lot at 221 S. Fourth.

Fire Marshal Roger Williams said heavy flames were coming from a vehicle when the first firefighters arrived about 5:20 a.m., and the fire had extended to two other vehicles parked beside the original vehicle. The burning vehicles were close to a building, so a second engine company was called to assist. However, Williams said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it reach other vehicles or the building.

Two of the vehicles were destroyed, Williams said, and a third was damaged. Total damage is estimated at $16,000 to $20,000.
