ABILENE — The body of Matthew Hilty, 26, Abilene, was found Wednesday night by a man walking his dog just south of Abilene.
Dickinson County Sheriff Curt Bennett said it was apparent that Hilty committed suicide with a gun. The weapon used was found near the body, Bennett said.
A man walking his dogs discovered the body at 8 p.m. Thursday on the banks of the Smoky Hill River, a half mile east of the Kansas Highway 15 bridge, about a half mile south of Abilene.
An autopsy was performed, but there were no results available, Bennett said.
