Bird City to have antique tractor show

BIRD CITY -- More than 200 working antique tractors, 10 of them full-size steam tractors, will be on display July 31 to Aug. 2 in Bird City at the Tri-State Antique Engine Thresher Show.

The show has been part of the community since 1953, when it was started on a farm northeast of town. Steam engines will race and blow their whistles. A blacksmith shop, print shop, quilt show, museum, car museum and creamery will be on display.

Special programs are planned at noon each day. Displays are planned in several buildings, along with demonstrations, including threshing, plowing, straw bailing, a saw mill and a shingle mill.

The show will attract up to 2,000 people on Aug. 2, which is "our heavy day," said Clayton Janicke, Bird City. He is co-president of the Tri-State Engine Threshers Association with his wife, Lori.
