Lincoln woman files for Senate seat

TOPEKA — Cynthia Nelson, Lincoln, has filed as a Democrat for the 35th District Kansas Senate seat held by Jay Emler.

The district covers Ellsworth, Rice, Lincoln, McPherson and parts of Dickinson, Morris, Barton and Marion counties.

Nelson spent 10 years as a first- and second-grade teacher before becoming an elementary school principal. Most recently, she was an assistant professor in the education department at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

She is a member of the Saline County Women’s Democratic Club, American Association of University Women, Kansas State Historical Society, Friends of the Salina Library, Salina League of Women Voters and Kansas Anthropological Association.

She owns and operates a family wheat farm in Lincoln County.
