An active night for weather across central and northern Kansas produced reports of hail and torrential rain in spots, but at least by 7:45 p.m., no significant property damage.

About 7 p.m., tornado sirens sounded briefly across Salina as emergency officials responded to a warning by the National Weather Service of a possible tornado six miles north of the city, said Dean Speaks, assistant director of Saline County Emergency Management.

"We've had a lot of citizen reports about (cloud) rotation, but we have been unable to confirm anything," he said.

Rod Job, Lincoln County Emergency Management director, said golf ball size hail was reported by rural residents in the northwest part of the county about 4:45 p.m. At least 3 inches of rain in that area produced some flooding, he said.

The tornado siren was sounded in Beverly for a short time as a precaution, but no funnels touched down, he said.

There was more significant damage reported in south-central Kansas. Softball size hail was reported by the weather service occurring in Scott County, while two people in a car were said to have died of storm related injuries near Pratt.
