A new federal grant will help the Saline County Sheriff’s Office keep track of registered sex offenders, Lt. Alyssa LeClair told the county commission Tuesday at its weekly open forum and public meeting.
The grant, which was approved in April, will provide $23,000 for overtime pay to increase the frequency of sex offenders’ compliance checks, LeClair told the commission. Offenders usually are checked three times a year to make sure information about where they live and work is accurate, but that will be increased to six times a year, LeClair said.
Another $14,060 will be used to upgrade the sheriff’s data management system “to make entry of registered offenders into multiple systems easier,” she said.
Saline County has 150 to 160 registered sex offenders, LeClair said.
