Osborne County continues murder investigation

SHARON MONTAGUE

PORTIS — Osborne County authorities continue to search for a sedan and at least two people in connection with the Tuesday murder of Jeffery S. “Scott” Noel, 55.

Noel was found dead in his rural home, about two miles southeast of Portis, about 4 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities believe he was killed between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. by intruders. The cause of death has not been released. An autopsy was to be conducted in Hays.

Authorities said Thursday that officers have completed their work at the Noel home, and they’ve released more precise descriptions of both a car seen near Noel’s house and suspects.

The car is a late 1980s or early 1990s midsize, four-door sedan that is light blue, blue or gray.

Authorities think two people were involved. One was described as a white male with a dark complexion, 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a medium build and dark curly or bushy hair.

Anyone with information about the car or the suspects may call the Kansas Bureau of Investigation tip line, 800-KS-CRIME, or the Osborne County Sheriff’s Office, (785) 346-2001.
