Children ages 5-18 will learn self-defense and martial arts and develop their athletic skills in Kid Guard Karate, being offered Sept. 3-29 by Salina Parks and Recreation.

Classes are offered Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays at Premier Martial Arts, 115 N. Santa Fe.

Fee is $25 a child.

"Nurturing Parenting: A Comprehensive Guide to Positive Parenting," a 10-week free parenting class, is being offered Monday evenings from Sept. 8 through Nov. 10 by CAPS.

The class will meet 6-8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth. Vicki Price, CAPS education director, is the instructor.

Free child care is available for children ages 12 and younger. Call 825-4493, to make a reservation.

Salina Parks and Recreation 50 Plus is offering a Vitaband exercise class at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the exercise room at Riverside Plaza, 600 E. Elm.

Linnette Burger is instructor. Most exercises are done in a chair, using a vitaband. The first band is furnished, and extras may be purchased for $3 each.

Cost of the class is $7.

Country line dance classes are offered at 5 p.m. Tuesdays at the Salina Senior Center, 245 N. Ninth.

Cost for the four-week class, sponsored by Salina Parks and Recreation 50 Plus, is $5, and classes begin Sept. 2.

Beginners are welcome, and partners are not needed.

Sondra Crank is the instructor.

The Salina Parks and Recreation Department is offering a "Get on the Ball" class from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Friendship Center, 746 Commanche.

Cost is $10 for four weeks.

The class is designed to strengthen your core and improve balance through the use of a stability ball. The ball is furnished.

The class meets 7-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 2-30, at Premier Martial Arts, 115 N. Santa Fe. Cost is $29 a child.

The Salina Parks and Recreation Department is offering an introduction to ceramics class for the entire family.

The workshops will introduce students to working with greenware and bisque, stain and glaze. Students will learn what a mold and slip are and how a kiln operates, and they'll complete a ceramic piece.

Classes are 7-9 p.m. Sept. 5 and 9-11 a.m. Sept. 6 at Memorial Hall, 410 W. Ash. Fee is $5, which includes supplies.
