ELLSWORTH — Wilson Police Chief Brian Hill, convicted of stealing beer from a Wilson Fire Department refrigerator, was fired Monday evening by the Wilson City Council.

The firing is effective Jan. 25. City Clerk Susan Kriley said the council gave Hill the option of a hearing within the next two weeks.

Hill, who has been suspended without pay pending the legal proceedings against him, has appealed his conviction, Ellsworth County Attorney Joe Shepack said in a press release.
