Second-degree murder charge filed in traffic fatality case

RUSSELL -- The alleged driver of a pickup truck that crashed early Sunday, killing a Manhattan woman, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with second-degree murder.

Tracy J. Driscoll, 24, Russell, was arrested after being released from Hays Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries he suffered in the crash.

Rebecca J. Trible, 21, a former Russell resident, was killed when the pickup truck she was riding in went into a ditch and rolled numerous times. The crash occurred on a county road half a mile southwest of the Russell city limits.

According to a news release from the Russell County Sheriff's Office, the pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The news release indicates that the driver fled from the crash site before law enforcement officers arrived but later was located at Hays Medical Center.

Driscoll is scheduled to appear Nov. 2 in Russell County District Court.
