Deadline for disaster assistance close

The application deadline for federal disaster loans for people affected by June 11 severe storms and tornadoes is Aug. 19.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has low-interest federal disaster loans for residents and businesses of all sizes and private, nonprofit organizations with property damaged or destroyed in the storms.

Disaster loans of up to $200,000 are available to replace damaged or destroyed primary residences. Home-owners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

Businesses of any size and nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.

Salinan injured in crash on K-4

A Salina man was reported in serious condition at Wesley Medical Center on Sunday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in a ditch.

David L. Chard, 59, 1109 Eastgate, was driving on Kansas Highway 4 when he failed to negotiate a curve at the Donmyer Road intersection at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, according to a Saline County Sheriff's Office report.

Chard was transported by helicopter to the Wichita hospital.

Man arrested after domestic incident

A domestic incident early Sunday morning led to the arrest of a Salina man.

A 36-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and held against her will by a male acquaintance between 2:15 and 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 1400 block of Oak Street.

Salina police arrested 25-year-old Corbin Pickerill. A police department spokesman would not release further details of the occurrence.
