Porsche driver treated after car-deer collision

Driver injured in car-deer collision

ABILENE -- A Naples, Fla., man driving a Porsche was hurt by a collision with a deer Sunday morning.

The deer went partially through the windshield, injuring Gerald W. Andrews, 56, who was taken to Salina Regional Health Center. A nursing supervisor Sunday night said Andrews was treated at the emergency room.

The collision happened at 7:53 a.m. in the westbound lane of Interstate Highway 70, a mile from the Dickinson-Saline County line, when the deer ran onto the highway, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported. Andrews was wearing a seat belt.

Omaha police arrest 2 murder suspects

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha police have arrested two men suspected of murdering a man authorities found dead in a fire-damaged apartment.

Police have arrested 36-year-old Brian Daigger and 20-year-old Joshua Minshall on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Police found 32-year-old Colby Dandrow early Friday after responding to reports of an apartment fire and a possible dead body. Police haven't given any more details about how Dandrow died, but say he didn't die because of the fire.

DeSoto teacher named best in state

DESOTO -- Jeri Powers, a reading specialist at Riverview Elementary School, has been named the Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Powers, who beat out seven other finalists for the award announced Saturday, said she planned to use the honor to push for more respect for teachers.
