Church Notes

n Peter Whitebird, a Chippewa from Topeka, will present his "Journey to the Center of Life" concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Salina Heights Christian Church, 801 E. Cloud. An offering will be taken. Whitebird has appeared in Bennington, Salina and many churches in surrounding counties. He's had 16 top five Christian country radio hits and 11 that topped the charts.

nSunrise Presbyterian Church, 825 E. Beloit, will have its annual ice cream social from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room at the church. For a $3 donation, you can get two large scoops of ice cream, a piece of homemade cake, and coffee or iced tea. Tickets will be sold at the door.

nFirst Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Family Hope Center. An open house at the center, 308 S. Eighth, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. July 18. A church celebration will be from 11:15 a.m. July 20, following Sunday worship.

n LINCOLN -- A retirement celebration for the Rev. Gerald Radtke is July 20 with a dinner following the 10 a.m. worship service at St. John Lutheran Church. An open house for Radtke and his family is at the Vesper gym, in Vesper, followed by a barbecue at 5 p.m. A program is at 6 p.m.

n Vacation Bible school at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago, "Teaching Tolerance," will be July 28 through Aug. 1. A kickoff cookout will be at 3 p.m. July 27. The VBS begins at 5 p.m. with dinner, followed by choir at 5:20 and the lesson, crafts and games from 6 to 8:45 p.m.

Wednesday night fellowship for school-age youths runs through Aug. 26 at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church. Dinner is at 5 p.m., and choir and class are from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

n The Rev. Frank Pavone, Staten Island, N.Y., the national director of Priests for Life, plans a visit to the Salina Diocese from Sept. 5 through 7. Pavone will speak at a dinner at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, 1616 W. Crawford. He also will be the presenter for the Salina Diocesan Respect Life Training Conference on Sept. 6 at the parish center of Saint Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud.
