church notes


n The Sunrise Presbyterian Church Mariner Fleet will have its annual chili and vegetable soup supper at the church, 825 E. Beloit, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today. Other menu items include hot dogs, relishes and pies. Carryout is available. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children, and may be purchased from any Sunrise Mariner or at the door. Proceeds are for special missions or equipment needs at the church.

n "Growing Our Souls -- A Lenten Musical Journey," a service of worship including anthems by Craig Courtney, one of America's finest church choir musicians, will be presented by the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth, at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday. Richard Koshgarian conducts the choir, and Judy Weber will be the church organist. An orchestra will accompany the choir. The public is invited to this special service of music.

nFirst Baptist Church, 843 Lewis, will have a dessert auction fundraiser at 6 p.m. Sunday in fellowship hall. All donations are welcome.

n The annual Falun pancake supper will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Falun Lutheran Church. Pancakes, ham, sloppy joes and pie will be served. The cost is by donation, and the proceeds will go to church mission projects.

n Bill Burrows will be at Tescott United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Sunday.

nUnited Methodist Church in Delphos will have a homemade chicken noodle dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. March 13. Carryout is available. The cost is by donation.

nImmaculate Conception Catholic Church in Minneapolis will have a fish fry from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on March 14. The meal will consist of fish, coleslaw, potatoes, corn, roll and pie. The cost for adults is $9.50 and children are $4. A meal to go is an additional $1. For more information, call (785) 488-8558 or (785) 488-3850.

n David Penny, who worked for NASA on the latter stages of the Apollo moon program and during the early years of the Skylab space station, will speak at the Teens for Christ rally at 7 p.m. March 15 at the Brown Grand Theater in Concordia. Penny has a mechanical engineering degree from MIT. His presentation will feature the second law of thermodynamics and the origins of the Earth. Special music guest will be the PFJs, a youth praise band from Courtland. For more information about the rally, call (785) 243-11543. The program is free and open to the public. An offering will be taken.

n "God So Loved ...," a special sermon and Bible study series at First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio, will begin March 16. The Traditions Worship Service is at 8:30 a.m., and the New Beginning Worship service is at 10:30 a.m.
