Print this story ERIN MATHEWS A Salina man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for sexual exploitation of a child and possession of marijuana. Richard E. Shelton, 52, 211 Millview, is considered a persistent sexual offender because of a prior conviction for possession of child pornography. He will serve time for five felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child at the same time as a sentence for a felony count of possession of marijuana, according to the sentence imposed by Saline County District Judge Rene Young. Following his prison sentence, he will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life, the judge said. He was also ordered to pay a $400 fee to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to cover the costs of drug testing. Shelton was arrested in April 2007, accused of possessing images and videos of children in sexually suggestive poses and of children engaged in sexual activity with other children and adults. The images were found on Shelton’s home computer and on computer disks in his home after his daughter alerted police to their existence.
