Barbecue competition planned

HAYS -- A barbecue competition is planned July 18-19 as part of the annual Blues BBQ event in Hays.

The competition will consist of two divisions. The Open Division, featuring pork, chicken, brisket and ribs, is a non-sanctioned event but will follow rules and regulations set by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. The rules may be viewed online at www.kcbs.us. The People's Choice Division will feature brisket only, which will be donated by Gella's Diner and Lb. Brewing Co.

Registration fee is $75 to enter the Open Division; there is no fee to enter the People's Choice Division.

The winner in the Open Division will receive a 2008 Traeger Lil' Tex 070 grill and a trophy, and the second-place finisher will receive a $300 cash prize and trophy. A $125 cash prize will be awarded to the winner in the People's Choice Division.
