COLBY -- Two people suspected of being involved in a robbery are hospitalized in Denver, and a third is in the Kit Carson (Colo.) County Jail following a Sunday morning chase on Interstate Highway 70 that began with a reported robbery at a highway rest stop.
According to the Thomas County Sheriff's Department, a 911 call about a robbery at the rest stop, located on the westbound lane at milepost 49, was received about 8:28 a.m. Sunday
John D. Stephens, 50, Colby, had been struck in the head with a blunt object and robbed while he was maintaining the rest-stop's restrooms. He was taken by ambulance to Citizens' Medical Center in Colby, where he was treated and released.
Also, Deborah Hall, 37, Bartlesville, Okla., reported being threatened and robbed while in her vehicle at the rest area. Hall had four children, aged 4, 11, 15 and 16, with her at the time; neither she nor the children were injured.
A suspect vehicle, a gray/silver minivan, was located on I-70 in Sherman County by the Kansas Highway Patrol. The vehicle failed to stop, and the highway patrol gave chase.
Just east of Burlington, Colo, spike strips were used to stop the minivan. The pursuit continued into Burlington, where the minivan crashed.
The three people in the minivan, William Blake, 52; Sharon Horne, 38; and Raven Frayre, 24, were taken into custody. Blake and Horne were air-lifed to St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, while Frayre was taken to the Kit Carson County Jail.
