Kansas communities receive federal grants

Eleven communities in Kansas have been named to share a $2.9 million community improvement grant through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

The recipients in northwest and north-central Kansas include;

n Cheyenne County, $71,000 in federal money, along with $71,000 in county funds, will buy a new ambulance for the county's ambulance station in Bird City.

n Graham County, $205,875 in federal money, along with $205,875 in county funds, will buy three new brush fire trucks and one rescue/quick attack fire truck.

n City of Marion, combining the $400,000 federal grant, along with $644,480 in local money, for street improvements.

n Norton County, is getting $283,750, which will be matched with $283,750 in local money, to build a 4,420-square-foot emergency medical services station.
