Power outage darkens Central Mall

Power outage darkens Central Mall

A couple of early afternoon shows Tuesday at Salina's Dickinson Theatres Central Mall Cinema were canceled because of a power outage caused when a mower hit a guy wire and a wire was pulled loose.

Tom Sydow, spokesman for KPL, said about 1,100 customers along South Ninth Street, north of Schilling Road, were without power for about 15 minutes shortly before 4 p.m.

However, Dickinson Theatres employees estimated the outage lasted about 30 minutes.

Matt Pahls, a theater employee, said the entire mall was dark between about 3:45 and 4:15 p.m.

"People were still out walking around and the gates to the stores were open, but all the lights were off," Pahls said. "I don't think anybody was selling anything."
