Extra courthouse security in force after threat

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office blocked stairway access to the third floor of the City-County Building Monday and installed a metal detector and extra deputies because of an unspecified threat, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said.

The third floor houses Saline County District Court and the Saline County Attorney’s Office. All visitors to the third floor were required Monday to use the elevator. Immediately after walking out of the elevator, they had to walk through a metal detector, staffed by two sheriff’s deputies.

Kochanowski said eight additional law enforcement officers joined the two regular court security officers on the third floor Monday, to provide extra security.

He wouldn’t say how long the extra security would be in place.
