SALINA CENTRAL 2, HUTCHINSON 0 -- First-half goals by Lauren Vanier and Colleen Bradbury propelled the Mustangs in an Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League contest Wednesday at Salina Stadium.
Central improved to 7-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.
The Mustangs outshot Hutch 16-10, while freshman goalkeeper Bailey Counts recorded five saves.
Central plays its third game in as many days today when it travels to Hays.
Softball
SE-SALINE TOP SEED AT 3A REGIONAL -- The Southeast of Saline Trojans have earned the top seed at the Class 3A softball regional next week at Bill Burke Park.
As the No. 1 seed Southeast (14-4), will receive a first-round bye and play Tuesday against the winner of Monday's 4:30 game between No. 4 seed Republic County (7-11) and No. 5 seed Bennington (6-12).
Sacred Heart (13-5), the No. 2 seed, will face Lyons (4-16) in a first-round game a 6:15 p.m. Monday. In the other first-round game No. 3 seed Beloit (10-8) will take on No. 6 seed Ellsworth (4-14) at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The winners of the Sacred Heart-Lyons and Beloit-Ellsworth games will face off at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Baseball
3A: SACRED HEART NO. 1 SEED -- Sacred Heart (13-2) has earned the No. 1 seed for next week's Class 3A baseball regional at Marion.
The Knights earned a first-round bye and will play Tuesday at 2 p.m. against the winner of Monday's 4:30 p.m. first-round game matching No. 4 seed Southeast of Saline (9-9) and No. 5 seed Lyons (7-11).
Other first-round games Monday include No. 3 seed Halstead (10-9) against No. 6 seed Ellsworth (7-11) at 2 p.m., and No. 2 seed Hillsboro (9-7) against No. 7 seed Marion (6-12) at 7 p.m.
The regional championship game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
2-1A: ELL-SALINE TO FACE BENNINGTON -- Ell-Saline has earned the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Bennington in the first round of the Class 2-1A regional at 4 p.m. Monday at Lynn Baldwin Memorial Park in Galva. If the Cardinals (9-9) win, they would face No. 1 seed Moundridge (18-2), which received a bye, at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
